Why should you buy a new mattress?


It is incredibly important to get a good nights sleep to be at your most effective during the day. Sleep can help us heal, change our mood, affect our productivity and much more. No one wants to spend their nights tossing and turning, and an old, poorly sprung mattress can be the reason in more cases than not.
As we spend over a third of our time asleep it is essential to buy a high quality mattress – this is one area where you definitely shouldn’t skint. A mattress that is either too old or of bad quality can affect your posture, and give you aches and pains during the day. Looking after your mattress

Try not to bend or fold it and place it on a firm base to ensure it doesn’t sag or droop. For the first 6 months after purchase try to flip or rotate it every month. After you should look to do this every 3 months. Never soak your mattress, instead use a slightly damp cloth or vacuum. A mattress protector may also help keep your mattress fresh.

How long should a mattress last?

There is no hard and fast rule to this as it can vary due to the usage of the mattress and its inital quality. For example a mattress in guest room will last far longer than one used nightly. Generally however it is suggested that you should replace your mattress every 5-7 years to keep it at its most comfortable and supportive. If you are beginning to find your mattress uncomfortable it is likely it is due to be changed. Look out for springs you can feel, lumps, sagging or lots of squeaking as these can also be indications.
